All Your Questions About Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel Answered

Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel is one of our most anticipated books of the year! Instead of the usual book-to-media adaptation, this novel is the reverse route turns that concept on its head, since it’s inspired by the musical.  Confused? Don’t worry, we got you! Here’s our Dear Evan Hansen FAQ:

How is Dear Evan Hansen the novel different from the musical?

You’ll have to read and find out! Okay but really, the book is an expanded story from the original. It means it goes into more details and covers more backstory than seen in the musical, including Connor’s POV.

Why are there four names on the cover?

Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are all co-creators of Dear Evan Hansen: the Musical and they worked with Val Emmich to adapt the musical to Dear Evan Hansen: the Novel.

When does it come out?

October 9, 2018!

Can I pre-order?

Of course! You can pre-order here, at your local bookstore, or anywhere books are sold.

What makes the first edition of the book extra-special?

The limited-time first edition keepsake includes a beautifully designed note from the authors.

What are these special editions I’ve been hearing about?

The “Anybody Have a List?” edition is exclusively available at Barnes & Noble, and you can pre-order it here. It includes Connor’s list of ten favorite books as well as lists from each of the authors about what inspired them in creating this story.

Meanwhile, especially for fans of the musical, Target has an exclusive edition with a never-before-seen monologue (from Evan!) and a song (by Zoe!) that were cut from the Broadway production. You can pre-order the Target exclusive edition here.

Will there be a book tour?

Yes, stay tuned for the tour dates!
